Key responsibilities

  • Research, analyze and design ZK argument systems and architectures for private computation.
  • Write specifications and communicate research findings through write-ups.
  • Analyze and give feedback for zero-knowledge circuits written in Rust.
  • Break down complex problems, and know what can and what can’t be dealt with later.
  • Perform security analysis, measure performance of and debug circuits.

You ideally will have

  • Very strong academic or engineering background (PhD-level or equivalent in industry); relevant research experience.
  • Deep understanding of Zero-Knowledge argument systems and related technologies (Nova, Plonk/Halo2, zk-STARK, zk-SNARK, circom), elliptic curve cryptography, and circuit design.
  • Keen communicator, eager to share your work in a wide variety of contexts, like internal and public presentations, blog posts and academic papers.
  • Experience in, and passion for, blockchain technology
  • A strong alignment to our principles

Bonus points if

  • Experience with low level / strongly typed languages (C++/Go/Rust)
  • Experience with Open Source software

[Don’t worry if you don’t meet all of these criteria, we’d still love to hear from you anyway if you think you’d be a great fit for this role. Just explain to us why in your cover letter].

Hiring process

The hiring process for this role will be:

  1. Interview with our POps team
  2. Interview with team member from the Vac team
  3. Pair programming task with the Vac team

We are gathering the best minds in finance, legal, data, risk, and engineering and to build the future of finance.

About the Role: As a Senior Smart Contract Engineer at Steakhouse, you will be at the forefront of developing and optimizing smart contracts that will leverage and empower crypto-native and real world assets (RWAs). You will design and implement secure, efficient, and scalable smart contract solutions to solve some of DeFi’s and RWA’s most challenging problems. You will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing new primitives for DeFi in partnership with the largest and most sophisticated capital allocators in the world, to truly scale DeFi globally.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance smart contracts (primarily in Solidity) to leverage - crypto-native and non-crypto-native assets and facilitate complex capital flows on-chain.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our smart contracts and protocols meet the highest security standards, undergo rigorous audits, and are designed to scale for large capital inflows.
  • Take a leading role in shaping protocol-level decisions, introducing innovative features that enhance functionality, security, and accessibility for end users and institutional partners.
  • Serve as a thought leader within the engineering organization, guiding junior and mid-level engineers, reviewing code, and establishing best practices for smart contract development and deployment.
  • Work closely with product leads, data scientists, and other stakeholders to integrate and optimize real-world asset tokenization strategies, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in DeFi, smart contract standards, bridging solutions, and blockchain technology, proactively recommending improvements to existing infrastructure.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience working in blockchain engineering, ideally with another DeFi Protocol with a large user base
  • A proven track record of shipping production-level smart contracts, ideally in decentralized finance or asset tokenization.
  • Deep understanding of Solidity, EVM mechanics, common smart contract patterns, and familiarity with relevant frameworks (e.g., Hardhat, Truffle, Foundry).
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices, including threat modeling, audits, and secure coding patterns (e.g., OpenZeppelin libraries).
  • Experience with Layer 2 solutions, cross-chain bridges, or zero-knowledge proofs.
  • Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Proven results in building and scaling a Defi protocol.
  • Practical experience with various DeFi protocols (e.g., lending, derivatives, AMMs, stablecoins) and an ability to design and implement complex financial logic on-chain.
  • Knowledge of tokenization platforms, and relevant industry standards (e.g., ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1155).
  • Strong emphasis on understanding the “why” behind requirements and commitment defining the “minimum scope.”

What we offer:

  • Competitive compensation including salary, future token rights, and equity.
  • True impact at scale - we have partnered with some of the world’s largest financial institutions to bring real world on-chain
  • Work within a remote and highly collaborative team consisting of diverse experts with the opportunity to travel to team events and conferences
