Headquarters: Fully remote company (worldwide, incorporated in France)
Do you care about contributing to open-source, and appreciate a good challenge? We do too! :)
Open-source
We are a team of veteran open-source developers, working on educational and community-based projects in an open-first environment – and we are looking for new members. By joining us, you will work full-time on open-source, pushing your changes to free software projects upstream through pull requests, contributing features, documentation, or help on public forums.
We care deeply about contributing our work upstream. You will see the results of your work reused and recognized across the educational community, increasing access to quality education for everyone, everywhere.
Remote-first
Unlike companies who reluctantly started to accept remote workers recently, we have embraced it from day 1. For the past 10 years, we have based and refined our way of working around remote-friendly workflows, from the ground up. No day-long video meetings, mandatory work hours, or risk of being forced back into an office one day -- as long as you have a good internet connection, it’s none of our business when or where you work from. :)
We are all working remotely, from all continents (except Antarctica, at least so far - applicants welcome!). We use remote-friendly and timezone-agnostic workflows based on asynchronous principles and good documentation practices.
Online education
We are one of the main contributors to the Open edX project, the main open-source MOOC platform created by MIT, Harvard and many other top universities. It powers sites like edX.org, the MIT Open Learning Library, and the national online learning platform for France. We provide development and hosting for institutions like Harvard Medical School, Harvard LabXchange, Cloudera, Autodesk, and several governments. We are not affiliated with edX.org, but we contribute and work with them on various projects.
Technical stack
The Open edX project is a large Python/Django codebase, with good code standards and architecture. Tasks are varied, from developing core platform features, custom exercises and tools for specific courses (XBlocks), customizing and deploying instances, working full-stack, operating our service infrastructure, improving our hosting platform, etc. You won't get bored here.
Contracting terms
This is a full-time, permanent contract position. We aim for long-term relationships -- once in, almost all team members stay for many years.
We care about paying fairly:
  • Team members set their own compensation level, which is paid based on hours worked (no unpaid overtime!).
  • When determining your rate, we will expect you to factor in benefits (vacation, healthcare, purchase budgets, etc.) - the idea is to let you pick the benefits that are useful to you, rather than offer one-size-fits-all packages that aren’t always very valuable.
  • We also proactively apply generous raises team-wide, based on the company results at the end of each year. See the details about how we approach compensation in our handbook.
We also firmly believe in work-life balance: as long as you deliver what you commit to, there is a lot of latitude in how much work you can choose to accept. We are open to time commitments anywhere in the 30h to 40h/week range, and highly discourage working more than that. It’s important to have time to ourselves, as well as having some slack, and there are diminishing returns in working more anyway. We are currently recruiting precisely to preserve that balance, and ensure we have plenty of capacity to handle our projects.
Culture and Work Style
We are a highly collaborative development team working in an agile environment. We have built a mostly flat organization, composed of 30 senior developers with a handful of support staff. You will be working with highly competent individuals who take responsibility for their work, and the same will be expected of you.
We belong to self-organized teams, so management doesn’t interfere with our day-to-day responsibilities and leadership is situational. You will lead some projects and join others. You will have a great deal of discretion in the work that you do and most of your work will be publicly viewable in the open-source community. Team members are continually learning from each other, and we place an emphasis on sustainable work practices and mental health. We help each other out when the unexpected happens and give kudos and recognition for work well done.
Camaraderie is strong, standards are high, and so is the retention rate. We invest in documentation, tests, and automation so that redundant work is minimized and team members can focus on more interesting problems. The work is completely remote – the entire sprint planning process is done asynchronously, and the sprint process itself is iteratively improved. We focus on minimizing meetings so when they do happen it’s for productive reasons. In order to make sure we still get some face time, we schedule optional social events to talk, play games, and engage in other activities. We also meet yearly in person at the Open edX Conference (in non-Covid times!), and use the opportunity to meet everyone, along with the rest of the community, and do a team retreat.
OpenCraft runs on the open first principle. Most of our conversations, code, and policies are publicly viewable.
Our handbook, like much of our work, is publicly viewable and you can find it at https://handbook.opencraft.com/
You can also visit our forums at https://forum.opencraft.com/
We welcome applicants of all genders and ethnicities.
Basic Requirements:
  • Experience with contributing to free software projects - small contributions are completely fine, but you must have at least one patch or pull request merged in a third-party project, or been a maintainer of an open source project with significant adoption. (Note that you can contribute now to satisfy this requirement - see for example the Open edX release issues, fixing one of these issues is a great way to match that requirement.)
  • Senior developer with 3+ years working with Python
  • Experience with Python web frameworks, specifically Django
  • 3+ years of HTML, Javascript, and CSS (experience with React and/or Typescript is a big plus!)
  • Experience with unit testing
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment, specifically Debian or Ubuntu
  • Experience with databases: MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
Additional Skills:
You will work on tasks from the following categories, but you can pick up the skills on the job if you haven't mastered these yet:
  • DevOps experience, especially on Debian/Ubuntu servers, Terraform, Vault, Packer, Prometheus, ELK, Docker. We are building a modern infrastructure and having a strong DevOps presence on top of core software engineering skills is a big plus with us.
  • Managing clients & projects from beginning to completion (senior developer)
  • Cloud computing, like AWS or Kubernetes
  • Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Consul
  • RabbitMQ, Redis & Elasticsearch
  • Mobile development (iOS and/or Android)
  • Public speaking at conferences (you would present a talk every year at the Open edX Con)
Apply for this Position
Our recruitment process differs from most other companies - we don’t believe resumes and traditional interviews to be particularly effective. Often, they tell more about how good someone is at interviewing, rather than at the actual work. So, our initial interview is lighter and easier to pass than in other companies - but we then provide you with real (and paid!) work to see how it works out in reality.
  • Step 1: You apply by filling out this form: https://opencraft.com/jobs/open-source-developer/
  • Step 2: We do two interviews with candidates matching the requirements listed above. The first interview includes a (simple) coding exercise.
  • Step 3: If this works out, we hire you! We start with a 2 months trial period, which allows both you and the rest of the team to fully evaluate how we work together, and is followed by a final review and confirmation.

Reactive Network Remote
Reactive Network is a fully EVM-compatible execution layer that allows developers to create the next wave of dApps using Reactive Smart Contracts. These contracts differ from traditional ones by using Inversion-of-Control for the transaction lifecycle, driven by data flows across blockchain ecosystems rather than user input. Through the Relayer Network, Reactive Smart Contracts receive event logs from various chains, executing Solidity logic based on these events instead of user transactions.

They can independently determine the need to transmit data to the destination chain, enabling conditional state changes. Reactive Network offers fast and cost-effective computation through a proprietary parallelized EVM implementation.

Bounty Program:

The Unicornization Bounty Program is an initiative by Reactive Network designed to identify and support the most promising ideas and projects that can be built on our platform. This program aims to bring together developers, both budding and seasoned, to contribute to our ecosystem while earning rewards.

Forward Labs (https://forwardlabs.ai/) is building superhumans, autonomous AI agents for global freight — the backbone of the global economy — a trillion-dollar industry. (think scale.ai for freight)
The company was founded in San Francisco by 3 friends from Xendit (YC S15, 1st YC unicorn in Asia from Berkeley) — early employees of an exited AI startup & 3 Y Combinator-backed startups from 0 to $1b+.
We’re now a fully remote team 🇺🇲🇨🇦🇰🇷🇵🇭🇸🇬. Our team is still quite small (<10) — so you’ll have a massive impact on the trajectory of the business from Day One + working with the founders directly and learning about Silicon Valley & emerging market experience.
Backed by Maple VC, Village Global (with LPs such as Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, etc.), and other Silicon Valley investors and logistics leaders.

What we’re building

Our platform, Forward AI, allows forwarders to automate their processes from booking to tracking and billing - so they can grow their businesses to move goods seamlessly without hiring more staff
Forwarders lose business when they book late. It takes 10-40 emails to book a cargo. Human Agents take 1-5 days on each booking — our AI Agent cuts it to minutes. It cuts costs too, by procuring from 10+ carriers instead of 3. This adds up to 1000s of cargo each day.
Specifically, provision it with a corporate email, and our AI Agent takes care of inquiry, approval, quotation, procurement, and billing. It runs on GPT to talk to shippers, employees & carriers. And, we built a backend OS to pull pricing data & log new bookings like a TMS.

About the role

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with various stakeholders (primarily clients & customer success team) to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Develop across technology stacks, including frontend, backend, databases, DevOps, automated testing, and alerting systems
  • Work across the entire product lifecycle from conceptualization to production
  • Architect and develop end-to-end operational solutions leveraging AI platform - focusing on accuracy, speed, and scalability
  • Design and develop robust integrations with various external freight (TMS) & communication (email) systems - utilizing APIs or RPAs
  • Write high-quality, maintainable, and testable code
  • Proactively seek and implement improvements to the team’s processes, codebases, and best practices
Example projects
  • Interoperable operational dashboard: to build a production-ready command center with the correct abstraction - supporting a variety of tasks with minimal customizations.
  • Multi-tenant workforce tool: to develop operational tools & integrations with reliability and scalability incorporated
  • Realtime document ingestion: to establish data ingestion infrastructure for both structured and unstructured data
  • Reverse engineering third-party software: to figure out the right architecture to integrate with external software without APIs - RPAs
  • Email onboarding/integration: to design 2-way integrations with multiple email providers, which even non-technical users can initiate
  • Automated QA: QA automation for UIs, internal APIs, and external integrations
Tech stack
We are tech-stack agnostic in terms of the skill sets we are looking for, but the tech stack looks like the below (expect this to change as we grow):
  • LLMs: OpenAI, Hugging Face, Mistral, DocumentAI
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI, Typescript, Supabase
  • Frontend: Next.js, GraphQL, Refine
  • Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Docker
A great fit, some or all of the following
  • Strong understanding of system designs (idempotency, circuit breaker, message queues, etc)
  • Familiarity with unit, integration, and E2E test frameworks
  • Familiarity with instrumenting monitoring systems for ensuring the quality of the products in production (Sentry, Pagerduty)
  • Is scrappy, comfortable with ambiguity, taking end-to-end ownership to ship, and values progress over perfection
  • Wants to set, maintain, and adhere to great software engineering standards (architecture review, comments, testing, documentation)
  • Never bored of spending time on your favorite newsfeed (e.g. Twitter, GitHub) browsing the latest computer concepts, codebase, and system designs
  • Are enthusiastic about the vertical applications of AI/LLMs in logistics & future of work in particular
  • Comfortable communicating in English
Bonus points
  • Experience working with AI/freight startups
  • Familiarity with AWS & GCP
  • Want to be a founder someday
  • Strong remote working communication skills

Interview Process

We expect the process to be complete within weeks.
  1. Video Call with founder(s): Values, culture-fit, getting to know more about you, and answer your questions about Forward Labs.
  2. [If needed] Take-home assignment/sample work submission
  3. Work trial (2 days to 1 week depending on availability and scope): to help you get a sense of how it feels to work with Forward Labs and vice versa. This will include, but not limited to - system architecture, prototyping, demo

About Dialect

At Dialect we’re on a mission to unfurl the internet, and give developers the tools to create experiences that are sharable—& actionable—everywhere. We call them Blockchain Links, or Blinks.

About the Role

Dialect is hiring its first Developer Relations Engineer to lead the education & adoption of a new developer tools product category.

You may be a good fit for this role if you have an obsession with great developer tools, an enthusiasm for evangelizing them, and a relentless drive to discover the language that defines them.

This position offers competitive compensation, including salary, equity, and benefits package commensurate with experience and location. This role requires being onsite in New York City one or two days a week.

Responsibilities

  • You will collaborate with the leadership, engineering, and product teams at Dialect to understand and shape our vision, and then share that knowledge with the community.
  • You will work closely with the developer community to educate them on these new concepts and the tools we’ve built around them, & respond to feedback to help better shape how we communicate our products, & what the products are themselves.
  • You will be in charge of creating and managing a variety of technical documentation, including blogs, tutorials, videos, webinars, and workshops, to empower developers and bridge knowledge gaps, enhancing partners understanding and collaboration.
  • You will develop and execute strategies to educate and inspire developers about Dialect’s tools and features.
  • You will engage and build relationships with developers in blockchain and Web3 communities.
  • You will collaborate with the leadership team to maintain consistent messaging and brand alignment across all developer-focused initiatives.
  • You will align the team daily, weekly, and monthly on our vision and strategy as we explore this new product category. You will monitor and report on the effectiveness of community engagement initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed.

Requirements & Skills

  • You have 2+ of experience in Developer Relations or a similar role, ideally in the blockchain/web3 domain. Or: surprise us with something about you that makes you uniquely qualified for this role.
  • You have an ownership mindset. You take responsibility & you find solutions.
  • You possess a strong technical background with a solid understanding of blockchain technology and smart contract development.
  • You have experience creating technical content, including tutorials, blog posts, and videos.
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills are excellent, enabling you to engage effectively with a technical audience.
  • You thrive working independently in a dynamic, remote environment and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • You are passionate about blockchain technology and deeply committed to community building.
  • You are online. You understand that customer feedback comes through all kinds of channels, including X, Discord, and other community forums.
  • You are a commander of process, not its subject. We are a small, highly competent team, we move quickly, & we believe that every team must strive to create as little process as necessary, but no less.

Today, onchain development is slow, risky, and painful, even for the most experienced onchain developers. Our goal is to bring a million developers onchain by creating an easy to use and trusted developer experience. We build API and SDK products for developers like wallets, paymaster, staking, stablecoins, onchain data, and more.

We are a small team that moves like a startup at Coinbase, with a fast pace, strong ownership culture, and a relentless commitment to making developers happy.

The Coinbase Platform APIs are the easiest way for developers to get started with building crypto applications. Conceived by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, these APIs enable those with no prior knowledge of crypto to begin sending and receiving crypto in as little as 30 seconds. A top priority of the Coinbase Developer Platform (CDP), the Platform APIs encapsulate some of the most cutting-edge technologies in crypto by externalizing Coinbase’s internal services, built over more than a decade of experience. The Platform APIs combine custodial and non-custodial wallets into one clean abstraction, making interactions with the blockchain simple and painless.

Coinbase Developer Platform and the Dev Portal is the destination for building and integrating web3 solutions, services, and products. We partner with other Coinbase products such as Base, Wallets-as-a-service, Staking, CB Pay, Advanced Trading, Commerce, Exchange so web3 developers can start building their onchain apps in minutes.

The Platform API team owns both server-side APIs and client-side libraries across different languages. The team seeks a full-stack engineer who is passionate about all aspects of excellent developer experiences: authoring clear and informative documentation, building compelling sample applications, interacting directly with customers to incorporate feedback, architecting delightfully simple SDKs, etc. The engineer must be comfortable operating in both frontend and backend codebases, fluent across a variety of programming languages, and demonstrate both high code velocity and quality simultaneously. The Platform API team consists of some of the most prolific and tenured software engineers at Coinbase, and is excited to ship a game-changing set of APIs and SDKs at breakneck speed.

    What you’ll be doing:

    • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems for the Platform APIs using Go and Javascript
    • Define and maintain clean and conformant HTTP REST API definitions using OpenAPI specifications
    • Design, develop, and maintain ergonomic, open-source SDKs to interact with the Platform APIs using Ruby, Typescript, Go, Python, and Java
    • Author, publish, and maintain clear and concise documentation, including quickstart and how-to guides, to increase adoption of the Platform APIs and SDKs
    • Develop secure and scalable key management systems, packaged as Docker images, to enable crypto wallet functionality across a range of custodial configurations (e.g. self-custodial MPC)
    • Work closely with many different teams at Coinbase to externalize their backend services through the Platform APIs, ensuring consistency of concepts, style, and design
    • Interface directly with customers to collect their feedback and iteratively improve the Platform APIs and SDKs
    • Build compelling sample applications end-to-end using the Platform APIs and SDKs to demonstrate their value and pressure-test the developer experience
    • Troubleshoot and debug complex fullstack issues, ensuring stability, reliability, and security
    • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high code quality standards

What we look for in you:

    • 6+ years of experience in both backend and frontend software development
    • Mastery of Go and JavaScript; experience with Ruby, TypeScript, Python, and Java is a plus
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an eye for detail and a passion for clear, comprehensive developer documentation
    • Strong understanding of crypto wallets, including key management, cryptography, and blockchain protocols (e.g. EVM)
    • Proven track record of designing, developing, and shipping high-quality, ergonomic client-side libraries and SDKs
    • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven architectures
    • Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and caching systems (Redis, Memcached)
    • Solid knowledge of RESTful API design principles and experience with API development and integration
    • Familiarity with AWS and containerization technologies like Kubernetes
    • Understanding of security best practices and experience with implementing secure coding practices for financial systems

You’ll become an essential part of our team, someone who is making a direct impact on not only the core product and reputation of our organization but also the whole world of education and beyond!
The IxDF is the global leader in online UX/UI design education. We hold the trust of industry giants like Adobe and IBM, who rely on our courses to train their teams. Prestigious universities, including MIT and the University of Cambridge, use our material into their curricula. Help us take online education to new heights and make a meaningful impact on humankind. We’re entering our third decade with over 170,000 graduates.
    We’re proud to have assembled
a remarkable team of unicorns who uplift, motivate, and push each other to excel daily. There's a seat open for someone who shares our passion for excellence. Could that be you?
    Project Overview
    Our flagship product
is a vast platform with over 30+ sub-domains for online courses, masterclasses, online forums, and community meet-ups in 508 cities in 107 countries. We understand what PHP developers need to thrive, and we've created an environment that delivers.

To string things together, we mix in just the right amount of documentation, with best practices such as focusing on the “why?” and keeping it simple.
    • Focus on what matters: Our CI/CD pipeline uses quality tools such as Psalm, PHPStan, Rector, PHPCS, PHP-CS-Fixer, Deptrac, phpcpd, and ESLint to ensure consistency and code quality. This means we’re almost bug-free despite having numerous, zero-downtime, fully automated deployments to production every day. We don’t like bugs and would rather focus on what matters most.

Ever wish your CEO encouraged you to write more automated tests? Or even just understood their importance? Want to work where clean code isn’t a luxury but a priority?
Our founder and CEO is a developer himself
, and our elegant code is the vein that keeps our company healthy and growing. You’ll never have to advocate for the importance of investing in code quality. You can save time (and frustrations) and spend it on doing what matters in a healthy, collaborative environment where your ideas, energy and time are valued.
You’ll be involved in all cycles of software development, including decision making, so there are incredible opportunities for you to take initiative, make meaningful contributions, and grow. Forget political struggles or long, pointless debates. You’ll be in a team with minimal distance between word and action, where decisions are made ultra-fast.
This is a rare opportunity to work exclusively with senior-level developers in a diverse, highly organized, result-driven environment where you can thrive personally and professionally.
    • Close to Legacy-Free Codebase. We know how technical debt and legacy code can turn into quicksand, so we continually eradicate it. Some examples include the complete rewrite of our notification and payment system and numerous enhancements made to our course platform.
    • Consistent Coding Standards. We are proud of our strict coding standards, which is the cornerstone of our clean and maintainable codebase. You can find numerous examples in the IxDF Handbook, which includes our conventions for PHP, Laravel, SQL, JavaScript, and CSS, along with other useful resources. You can also find other examples in the IxDF UI Kit, which we’re currently rebuilding into an industry-leading  Design System and our handy IxDF component library
    • Crystal-Clear Documentation. Clarity is key. Any line of code should be a succinct, well-crafted, and self-explanatory piece of communication to your future self or your colleague.
    • Test Coverage: "The only way to go fast, is to go well - Robert C. Martin”. We love automated testing, especially Unit Tests, and use TDD as much as we can. We've been increasing our test coverage over the years, reaching an overall 38% test coverage throughout the system, with critical systems having over 80% test coverage.
The Stack You Will Work On
#UseThePlatform. We focus on enduring technologies over the latest fleeting frameworks so that our developers' knowledge continually grows instead of becoming outdated after each trend has passed. This philosophy allows us to build robust, maintainable and beautiful code that stands the test of time, rather than chasing the latest hype. Some of our key technologies include:
    • Always latest PHP and Laravel versions
    • Modular monolith comprising 30+ modules with bounded contexts
    • Laravel ecosystem: Horizon, Nova, Scout, Pennant, Passport, Inertia, and more
    • Web Components, Htmx, Tailwind, Vue.js, Inertia.js,Vite

    What You Will Be Doing
We are committed to excellence, and we seek a like-minded enthusiast to join us. This role is not for the average; it's a calling for a true clean code evangelist
    • Ahead of you is a highly rewarding and enriching journey on which you’ll make an impact as you: Contribute to the development of the back-end modules for interaction-design.org, encompassing new feature development, constant refactoring, and infrequent bug fixing.
    • Write maintainable and clean code, covered with clean automated tests, including contributions to our open-source packages.

    Role and responsibilities

    • Build dependable and beautiful frontends across the idOS stack: our Data Dashboard, the Secure Enclave, product demos, and more.
    • Write reliable SDKs enabling developers to seamlessly interact with the idOS and provide users with a magical experience.
    • Contribute to our developer documentation and tooling to make idOS integration the smoothest developer experience in web3.

    • You have a natural tendency to write good code, but you also understand that “good code” is a matter of aesthetics, familiarity, and style.
    • You’re able to work autonomously from research and speccing, to deployment and monitoring; you thrive in taking greater ownership and responsibility.
    • You are proactive and take action by default, consistently driving progress without asking for permission too much. You make others aware of how, when, where, and why you’re cowboying.
    • You know how to identify that a task is starting to overrun its original scope/budget, and know when to back off from rabbit holes.
    • You are fluent in spoken and written English. Remote comms are already hard enough.
    • You have experience using web3 apps and tools such as Uniswap, Aave, or MetaMask.
    • You are familiar with basic cryptography, and curious about harder cryptography.
    • You’re somewhere within UTC±3.
    • You can provide a reference for a call.
    • You have experience building and documenting APIs, SDKs, and other developer-directed products. You’d be comfortable writing a draft for an EIP and work with community feedback.
    • You challenge people’s opinions and direction, but know the value of “disagree and commit”.
    • You’re excited about blockchain technology, cryptoeconomics, game theory, and decentralization. It’s not about shitcoins, it’s about real products for real people.

    Nice to have

    • Experience with identity and authentication tech helps a lot. OpenID, OAuth, WebAuthN, Passkeys, U2F, LDAP, SAML, etc; any of these will be useful.
    • Experience with non-EVM blockchains.

    Techs we use

    • JavaScript/TypeScript (a lot; frontend and backend), Golang (a moderate amount, for chain extensions), Rust and Solidity (for smart contracts)

    1. A ~45min video call with one or more of our team members, where we get to know each other and ask some questions to assess if there’s a mutual fit.

    Role and responsibilities

    • Build reliable and highly-available backend services for authentication, authorization, blockchain interaction, and indexing.
    • Build secure, upgradable smart contracts across several blockchain infrastructures.
    • Write reliable SDKs enabling developers to seamlessly interact with the idOS and provide users with a magical experience.
    • Contribute to our developer documentation and tooling to make idOS integration the smoothest developer experience in web3.
    • Create applications showing off the full potential of the idOS.

    TL;DR
    • We’re an early stage martech and analytics company with a remote team, headquartered in Berlin, Germany.
    • 7+ years of professional experience is ideal for this role.
    • You’ll be joining a small but experienced engineering team.
    • Our codebase is TypeScript on the frontend and backend.
    • There’s a wide variety of projects to work on and things to learn, such as our React web app, analytics infrastructure on GCP, customer API, JS snippet, and AI-driven experimentation.
    • This is a full-time, remote role within Europe. Our existing engineering team is split between Germany and Poland.
    • Link to apply below!
IMPORTANT: You must currently be a resident of Europe within the 29 countries listed below for us to be able to hire you. We are not relocating candidates or sponsoring new visas, but can help you keep an existing work visa within Germany if needed.
    About the role
Affilimate is looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer experienced with TypeScript, React, and Node.js to join us.
Our product is a web analytics and data platform used by media companies and creators. We track millions of pageviews per day and millions in revenue every month for our customers.
This role is perfect for an experienced, product-oriented software engineer, who strives to build beautiful, user-friendly products across the full stack.
You should love talking to users, participating in product research, and be able to work autonomously on projects without having all the requirements spelled out in advance.
Our team is small and our processes are efficient. You’ll eventually ship code to production on a daily basis. You should be able to balance a high level of code quality with practical decision-making and bias towards shipping early and often.
Our cofounder, Monica Lent, is a software engineer with 10+ years experience, and together with the team will work with you to get you up to speed quickly.
    Technologies
Our codebase lives in a monorepo of 300K+ lines of TypeScript.
We’re running on Google Cloud Platform, with a React.js frontend (built with Firebase, Material UI, Emotion, and Recharts) and a serverless backend running on Cloud Functions and GCP-managed databases.
Bonus if you have experience with columnar databases like BigQuery and ClickHouse, though we also use Firestore, Postgres and Redis for specific use cases.
    Typical tasks
    • Building new features end-to-end based on first-hand customer research you participate in and iterating on design mockups.
    • Building new tools that ingest and display large volumes of analytics, transaction, and ecommerce data in a performant and user-friendly way.
    • Optimizing and scaling existing workflows, for example by introducing streaming, gradual data fetching, intermediate storage in buckets, or creating new systems altogether.
    • Working on our customer-facing API, exposing some of our powerful internal endpoints to customers in a safe way.
    • Data visualization, including pulling data from our JS snippet or integrations, and bringing that date to the frontend and then visualizing it.
    • Enhancing features with AI where it makes sense, mindfully and responsibly, so we can provide innovative ways for our customers to leverage their proprietary data.
    • Integrating 3rd party APIs following proven patterns and systems.
    • And of course, maintenance, refactoring, and fixing issues reported to our Support team, as well as writing internal documentation.
In general, there’s a wide variety of work, so there’s a lot to learn no matter your background.
    Product
Affilimate is an analytics platform that helps media companies, marketers, and creators grow their website's affiliate revenue by understanding exactly where their revenue is coming from.
We do that in three main ways:
    1. Aggregating transaction data from multiple data sources in one place via APIs and other integration methods.
    2. Connect revenue back to specific content and links, using our web analytics platform and JavaScript snippet.
    3. Optimization tools like heatmaps and revision tracking, which content editors can use to improve performance.
We’re already handling millions of requests per day and looking to scale 100 - 1000x.
We’re also expanding our product offering beyond data and analytics, and are looking for product-minded engineers to help spin those projects up.
    Location
You must currently live and be able to work in Europe in one of the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
We would especially like to hire within Germany or Poland, as that’s where our existing team is and we do quarterly coworking and planning in person. For strong candidates, we can expand the area to the 29 countries listed above.
If you need an employer to continue working on a German work visa, we can probably support you!
We are not able to sponsor relocation to Europe or visas in other European countries.
    Benefits
    • Work remotely and enjoy flexible hours.
    • Low stress, low meetings, no corporate politics.
    • Internal transparency of our company performance via weekly All Hands.
    • Influence the product direction and see your work directly impact the business.
    • Build the product based on direct customer feedback, be part of customer interviews and onboarding, and implement improvements based on first-hand experience.
    • Opportunity to take on more responsibility as the team grows.
    • Use modern tools for work, like Slack, Linear, and Slab.
    • Quarterly in-person coworking with other engineering team members in Europe.
    • Annual offsite with the rest of the company.
    • Company-provided laptop with upgrades every 2 years.
    • 300 EUR initial remote office budget.
    • Local benefits (varies by country).
    What we’re looking for
Our ideal candidate fits the following profile:
    • 7+ years prior professional experience. You should have strong technical experience, ideally working in an early to mid-stage startup.
    • Very strong understanding of data structures. A huge part of the job is data aggregation and transformation, so you can store/retrieve/display data in different ways.
    • Strong TypeScript skills. You need to be comfortable working in a TypeScript codebase, and fundamentals like using generics, union types, etc.
    • Experience with React. A big part of the job is building and improving our UI.
    • Command line fundamentals. You should be comfortable working on the command line as needed. Comfort with git is also a must.
    • Focus on security and performance. Performance matters at our scale, and nothing is more important to us than security of our confidential customer data.
    • Care about design and UX. You should be comfortable with CSS, and pay attention to detail when implementing designs.
    • Strong English communication. You should be able to clearly discuss technical topics in English.
We're building a diverse team, and welcome non-traditional backgrounds. We don’t care if you have a CS degree or not. We do care about years of professional technical experience and as well as the non-technical skills that come along with it.
This role is not open to freelancers or agencies, and we are not interested in hiring through a recruiter.
    Bonus points
You’ll be at a strong advantage for this role if you have:
    • Experience on Google Cloud Platform.
    • Experience working on data-intensive projects and related skills.
    • Comfort with SQL and experience working with relational databases like Postgres, columnar databases like BigQuery/ClickHouse, and in-memory storage like Redis.
    Expectations
    • You can work independently while still asking questions when something isn't clear.
    • We'll start by tag teaming over Slack as you learn the product, domain, and codebase.
    • After 2-3 weeks, you'll be able to independently handle small features, add functionality to existing screens, and fix simple bugs.
    • After 1-2 months, you'll be able to implement small to medium-sized, standalone features, build new screens, and fix more complex bugs.
    • After 3-5 months, you'll be able to contribute to system refactors and more architectural-level changes.
    Hiring process
    • Fill out the application form linked below. You'll hear from us within 1 week.
    • If you pass the application, you'll get a short coding test (15-20 minutes) to help us evaluate your programming fundamentals.
    • Then, we'll do an initial, 30-minute interview over Zoom to learn about you and share more about our company.
    • Finally, we’ll do a 45-minute verbal technical interview together with existing members of the team.
    • In the end, we'll see if we're a match from both sides.
Our goal is to fill these roles by the end of August.
