At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

Developer Experience (DevX) is responsible for making sure all engineers at Coinbase build high-quality products while being productive and engaged. We do this by providing infrastructure, libraries, frameworks, and tooling to make it easier and faster to build high quality applications. Within DevX, our Onchain Pod is focused on defining the future of developer experience for onchain developers, both within Coinbase and in the broader crypto ecosystem. We believe that the onchain platform is the most important builder platform since the internet (“online”). As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you’ll be instrumental in designing, building, and executing core solutions that drive our systems.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Lead the new Onchain Pod and help define its charter, vision, mission, and roadmap.
  • Work with stakeholders in Engineering and Security to identify pain points and insecure processes in the onchain development lifecycle.
  • Architect and build new tooling to improve onchain development for Coinbase and the broader ecosystem. Augment and maintain existing tooling.
  • Drive the evolution of Web3 development toward Web2-level tooling, reliability, and ergonomics - reducing friction and making onchain development more accessible.
  • Take ownership of the team's processes and services, ensuring SLA adherence.
  • Be a thoughtful technical voice within the team, aiding in diligent architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other members of the team to deliver high quality solutions.
  • Champion a “don’t DIY unless necessary” philosophy by leveraging proven industry standards and modern frameworks wherever possible.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in the Web3 tooling ecosystem, and integrate best-in-class solutions to accelerate internal development without reinventing the wheel.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • You have 8+ years of software engineering experience.
  • You are passionate about enabling onchain development.
  • You have extensive experience with smart contract deployments, execution, and management (EVM in particular).
  • You have a deep understanding of how popular L1s and L2s work.
  • You have an energy and self-drive for continuous learning as crypto is a constantly and rapidly changing space.
  • You excel in clear, direct, and kind communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You have experience building relationships with security, product, and engineering teams.
  • You balance long term strategic thinking with short term tactical planning.
  • You are familiar with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS), containerization (e.g., Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Nice to haves:

  • Prior experience working in a Developer Experience/Productivity, Platform, or similar domain team.
  • Have previous experience at a fast paced, high growth stage internet/software company.
  • Contributions to open-source crypto projects, such as OP Stack.
  • Experience with Golang, Geth, Rust, Reth, Foundry, Solidity, or other crypto tools.
  • An interest in blockchain security, red-teaming, and exploit prevention.

About Aztec

At Aztec, our goal is to add privacy to Ethereum.
In the current public blockchain paradigm, users and entities unknowingly broadcast data in the public, compromising privacy and security to get trustlessness.
Not only are unencrypted blockchains inherently privacy-exposing, they require significant redundancy to compute and verify the legitimacy of transactions.
Implementing scalable encryption in a public blockchain paradigm requires cutting-edge math and engineering. Thankfully, our team of scientists and engineers invented Plonk, the industry-standard zkSNARK, and Noir, the universal language of zero knowledge.
Now, we’re building a first of its kind Layer 2 with private smart contracts. This requires new cryptographic primitives, a zero-knowledge DSL for writing contracts, a privacy-friendly execution environment, a carefully designed set of circuits that prove the validity of the chain to L1, a decentralized block-building and proving mechanism, and a top-tier user and developer experience. And it’s now time to bring it to market.
We’ve raised $125 million from industry-leading investors including a16z crypto, Paradigm, Variant, Consensys, and a_capital, and we’re growing quickly.
What You’ll Do
We’re looking for entrepreneurial, impact-driven engineers who thrive in fast-paced environments and want to be at the forefront of privacy-first decentralized applications. You’ll be part of a highly collaborative team working on the client-side stack that powers Aztec's zero-knowledge execution environment.
You Will

  • Design and build tools & SDKs that enable developers to build powerful, privacy-preserving dApps on Aztec.
  • Develop a secure client-side execution environment, used by wallets and applications to produce and handle encrypted transactions.
  • Architect reusable patterns and libraries for writing auditable and verifiable Aztec smart contracts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with protocol, cryptography, and product teams to build end-to-end privacy-preserving applications.
  • Refactor, document, and test existing code for maintainability, performance, and correctness.
  • Identify and reduce technical debt, while continuously improving architecture and developer ergonomics.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in blockchain or cryptography-related systems.
  • Deep proficiency in TypeScript, with strong software architecture and API design skills.
  • Working knowledge of system-level concerns such as performance tuning, memory management, and secure data handling.
  • Able to provide thoughtful code reviews and mentor other engineers.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and asynchronously within a distributed team.
  • Located in or able to work within GMT to EST time zones.
Bonus Points
  • Experience with Rust, Solidity, or other smart contract languages.
  • Contributions to open source projects, especially in the Web3 or cryptography space.
  • Familiarity with zk systems like ZCash or other privacy-preserving protocols.
  • Exposure to modern web development frameworks and tooling.
  • Passion for zero-knowledge cryptography and its role in reshaping the internet.
What We Offer
  • Flexible, remote-first culture with HQ in London.
  • Competitive salary + equity/token options.
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.
  • Health, dental, and retirement benefits (based on location).
  • Quarterly offsites for team collaboration and bonding.
  • Conference and learning budget for continual professional development.
  • A chance to work on truly cutting-edge zero-knowledge infrastructure with some of the best minds in the field.
Aztec Labs is an equal opportunity employer and we value creativity, diversity, and intellectual curiosity. If you're passionate about leveraging your creative talents to make a real-world impact, and if you want to be part of a team that's shaping the future of digital privacy, then we would love to hear from you.

About Sherlock

Sherlock believes that a sound currency and functioning financial system should be basic human rights. Sherlock’s mission is to help create an open, uncensorable financial system that is secure enough for billions of people to trust with their life savings.

Traditional blockchain security reviews are a good start, but it’s not enough. That's why Sherlock provides protocols with state-of-the-art, incentive-aligned audit contests, bug bounties and smart contract coverage.

Sherlock is the only security provider that includes a warranty after each audit. Sherlock customers get up to $500k of bug bounty and exploit coverage for the first month of launch after every audit.

Sherlock is also the only security provider to serve a customer’s full security needs, including collaborative audits, audit contests, bug bounties, and coverage.

Sherlock’s audit contests combine the best of traditional auditing with a competitive twist that results in hundreds of eyes looking at the codebase and some of the best security experts in the world surfacing issues that traditional audits miss.

Sherlock is the leader in auditing, running more public audits than any other provider last year. The Ethereum Foundation, Aave, Optimism, Cosmos, MakerDAO (now Sky) and the biggest crypto teams in the world choose Sherlock for their security needs.

Join Sherlock’s elite team on the ground floor, backed by some of the best Web3 and Silicon Valley VC firms such as Alliance, Archetype, IDEO, CoinFund, Lattice, Spartan, A Capital, and many others.

Sherlock's Culture

Sherlock's culture is fast-moving, intense, and not right for everyone. Here are some common attributes among historically successful team members at Sherlock:

Mission-focus

Anyone in this for reasons other than creating the best financial coordination mechanism in history will either get too demotivated to last through multi-year bear markets or get too distracted during the frothy bull markets.

Willingness to work long, hard and smart

If Sherlock has any advantage, it is the willingness to work harder and think with more discipline than anyone else. This includes thinking from first principles about all important decisions and always thinking in tradeoffs and bets.

Owner mentality

Team members get ownership in Sherlock after a short time in this role, and each is expected to act like an owner of a Michelin-star restaurant where no detail is too small.

Builder mentality

Everyone at Sherlock is deep in the arena getting their hands dirty and this is a vulnerable position. There are no pure "idea people" or pure managers at Sherlock; everyone is in execution mode first and foremost.

Customer focus

It is too easy to sit behind a computer and build in an echo chamber. We must go out of our way to experience the customer's viewpoint as often as possible.

Professional athlete mentality

Professional athletes opt in to a high-performance, meritocratic culture. This creates an environment that brings out the best in people and rewards each for their respective performance. But it's also an environment where being in the 70th percentile in your role means you will have a short tenure on the team.

Comfort with directness and transparency

You must be comfortable giving direct feedback to others and receiving direct feedback yourself. "Not ruffling feathers" comes at the expense of moving in a suboptimal direction for too long. Sherlock is extremely transparent internally (and with customers) which means you can get involved in decisions made in any part of Sherlock.

The Role

Sherlock is already one of the leaders in blockchain security. But we’re looking to push the space forward further. Your role will be to contribute to the development of an exciting new initiative inside Sherlock.

This initiative will be spearheaded by the CTO of Sherlock directly, and other team members are some of the best in the world at what they do. It will be a small team of elite members working on a very interesting area of blockchain security. If you succeed, you’ll take on much of the new feature development for this initiative, with support from the CTO, Sherlock’s existing engineers and designers.

We are looking for someone who gets excited about the impact they can make in a role. The pace will be fast and the responsibilities will be high. Experience with Sherlock’s existing frontend and backend tech stack is a requirement. As is a strong base of Solidity knowledge. If you're serious about applying for this job and you've read this far, please email jack at sherlock dot xyz with 4-sentence answers to each of these three questions: What is the biggest individual contribution you’ve ever made to a software project? What gets you out of bed and excites you? Why should Sherlock select you over hundreds of other applicants?

Your role is to take on the highest impact position in a new initiative at Sherlock alongside a small team of elite players. In terms of the skills required in your role, a strong understanding of Python, Typescript and Solidity is a must. You’ll be responsible for full-stack development of features using Python in the backend, Typescript in the frontend, React and NextJS frameworks. You’ll be building an application related to Solidity smart contract security, so a strong understanding of Solidity is also required.

Any understanding of Solidity security vulnerabilities is a plus, but not a requirement for the role.

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role include:

- Building features in an enterprise-grade application using Python (backend), Typescript (frontend), React and NextJS (10x weight)

- Understanding the user requirements of a Solidity developer and building based on their feedback (7x weight)

- Taking product direction from the CTO and working alongside designers (7x weight)

- Being extremely hungry/driven and ready to wear a different hat on any given day to help Sherlock succeed (5x weight)

Requirements

- Past experience building full-stack applications using Python (backend), Typescript (frontend), React and NextJS

- A strong understanding of Solidity smart contract development

- A strong interest in Solidity smart contract vulnerabilities

- A strong interest in AI applications and agentic workflows

Nice to Haves

- Past experience with Solidity smart contract development

- Past experience with Solidity smart contract vulnerability research

- Past experience with AI, LLMs, and/or building agentic workflows

What's in it for you

- Attractive base (payable in fiat or crypto) + material tokens/equity + benefits

- Flexible time-off policy

- Great healthcare

- Multiple offsites each year in places like France, Argentina, Thailand, etc.

- Be a huge contributor on a small elite team focused on an exciting area of blockchain security

- Root access to the decision-making process/criteria in all areas of Sherlock and the ability to work directly with the founders

- Move quickly and get stuff done on a small, elite team that has already made a big impact in the crypto space

- Play a huge role in defining the future of Sherlock and accomplishing the goal of making crypto/DeFi accessible to everyone
